Course Description

The course consists of 3 loops around St. Mary's River Park.   Runners have the option of completing one loop (17K), two loops (34K), or three loops for the full 50K distance.  Distances are approximate and not officially certified.  Due to erosion, plate tectonics, and global warming, the course may not measure exactly 50K.  

The trails are singletrack and mostly runnable with some technical sections with tree roots.  There are some minor hills, but no significant elevation change. The surface of the trail is mostly packed dirt, but there are a few sandy sections and a half mile portion of crushed stone.  Water crossings have bridges, but weather conditions may provide additional challenges on the trail like snow, water, mud - oh my!  The course will be clearly marked with streamers and there will also be signs and markers to keep runners on course.  

Due to a significant portion of single track trail, NO pets and NO strollers.  

Time Limit:  8 hours

50K runners who do not start the third loop by 5.5 hours will be asked to drop down to the 34K option.  To stay on pace, runners will be expected to reach Aid Station #2 (~40K) by 6.75 hours.

Timing  

This event is manually (not chip) timed. 

  • All runners will be tracked through each aid station. 
  • Your race bib must be worn on the front of your body outside of your clothing so that it is visible and can be recorded by a volunteer for each pass through

Packet Pickup

Pre-race day packet pickup will be available Friday, February 17th from 11am-2pm and 4pm-6pm. at DICK'S Sporting Goods (46260 Lexington Village Way, Lexington Park, MD 20653).  Race day packet pickup is also available at the race site starting at 6:15.  Save the stress on race day morning and pickup the day before!!

Pick-ups may be made for friends or family on Friday, but you must present a note from the absent runner stating permission.

Safety First

  • If you are unable to finish the course, please notify a volunteer at the nearest aid station. They will then notify the race director and arrange transportation if needed
  • If you see a potentially injured runner on course, please get the runner’s bib number and report the situation at the following aid station

Aid Stations

There are two aid stations on the loop – one at the start and one at the mid-point, approximately 5 miles apart.  Due to the distance between stations, it is highly recommended that you run with your own hydration.  

Stations will be stocked with water, sports drink, soda, gels, baked goods, sweet and salty snacks, soups, and more to help fuel your run!  Race nutrition sponsored by GU Energy who will be providing GU Energy Gels and Hydration Drink Mix!!  Both stations will have port-a-potties available.

Gear Check

Gear check is your car.  The start/finish is just steps from the parking lot and you be able to access your car at the end of each loop.

For security concerns, no unattended backpacks or other bags are permitted in the park; this includes runner and spectator backpacks and bags.
